Variable Watermilfoil
Avoid breaking this plant into fragments to infest new areas!
Locations with Variable Watermilfoil are indicated on the Sebago Lake Boaters' Guide to help you avoid the plant. Once a plant is broken up, the fragments grow new roots and eventually take over the entire body of water.
A task force is currently trying to remove the plant from the upper part of the Songo River in Naples before it reaches Brandy Pond.
As you operate your boat near the plant, please avoid running it over.
The LEA task force is planning to meet on the Songo River at 10:00 AM on May 17-18 to do the plant inventory first, then put down some geotextile fabric if time allows. They will use divers and the new glass kayak to do the inventory.
The purpose of the week’s work is to learn how to lay the barrier and to complete the inventory and plan on how much material to buy.
